Save Yourself from Coronavirus – Practice Basic Precautions

The world is currently grappling with the Coronavirus scare. It is a group of illnesses striking the respiratory tract, and causing initial symptoms like cold, cough, fever, etc. However, the COVID-19 strain of the virus is a new one that does not yet have a vaccine.

The first cases of COVID-19 were detected late in the year 2019 in China. From here, it has spread via tourists and local residents travelling to other countries.   • Get yourself or a family member tested if you suspect an infection.

If you or a family member suffer from even the slightest respiratory distress, you should contact your doctor at once. Describe the symptoms and have the doctor send you to a Government-notified screening facility in your city. It could just be a common cough and cold, but it helps to exercise adequate precautions and rule out the COVID-19 disease. If the Coronavirus disease is confirmed, then you will be quarantined and given the appropriate treatment.

  • Maintain hand hygiene several times a day.

The best way to keep this viral disease at bay is to keep the hands clean and free of infectious germs. The hands pick up these germs by touching contaminated surfaces. Wash your hands several times a day with an antibacterial soap like Hamam, to kill the viruses and keep your hands germ-free.

  • Keep your distance.

Maintaining a physical distance of about three feet in social situations is important till the Coronavirus infection is brought under control. We have no way of knowing who carries the infection and who doesn’t, so maintaining distance will prevent against inhaling the droplets expelled by anyone sneezing or coughing close by.

  • Don’t touch your eyes, nose and mouth without washing your hands first.

As mentioned above, the hands pick up infectious germs inadvertently by touching contaminated surfaces. Meanwhile, they transfer these germs to you when you touch your eyes, nose or mouth. Avoid touching your face altogether, and wash your hands with Hamam soap before you do.

  • Wear a face mask when going out.

Travelling to countries where the COVID-19 has been detected has become difficult, with many airlines cancelling or diverting flights. Some cases have been detected in India as well, so do yourself a favour and buy a good quality face mask. Do wear the mask even when using local transport or stepping out of doors for a short while. The mask acts as a barrier against infectious germs released into the air. Clean the mask as directed every alternate day.

  • Stay at home to avoid infecting others.

If you are infected with the virus or have recently returned from a country where the viral disease is spreading, then it is better to quarantine yourself at home as a precaution. Even if you suffer from a common cold and cough, stay at home to avoid spreading the infection to others in your vicinity.
